Hours and Fees at a Glance
Day-Use Hours
DCR lists the park's hours as sunrise to sunset. That covers the trails, the ponds, the day-use area at Big Bearhole Pond, the playground and the Lake Rico launches. DCR's plan describes Massasoit as a year-round day-use park with seasonal camping, so you can walk, fish or ski here in winter too. Leave before dark; DCR's hiking notes ask everyone to plan around sunset.
What It Costs

Seasonal Notes
- Spring: MassWildlife stocks Lake Rico with trout.
- Summer: the busiest time; day-use parking can run out, and only campers can swim (see swimming).
- Fall: DCR calls fall an especially good time to visit, when the cranberry bog turns scarlet against the pines. Hunting is allowed in the park, so wear blaze orange in season.
- Winter: cross-country skiing is a listed activity, and anglers fish through the ice.
Evening Events
DCR used to run free outdoor movie nights, but its plan reports that all evening events are suspended because of Eastern Equine Encephalitis risk from mosquitoes. Use insect repellent at dusk in summer.
